Scientiae is an international research network focusing on Renaissance and Early Modern science, philosophy, and culture (https://scientiae.uk/). Since its establishment in 2012, the network has sought to explore the epistemological and methodological innovations between 1450 and 1750 and their impact on modern knowledge formation. A key activity of Scientiae is the organisation of annual conferences in various European countries, which serve as forums for scholars from diverse academic disciplines to foster scientific discussions and promote interdisciplinary approaches.
This year, the Scientiae 2025 Annual Conference will be held in collaboration with the History of Science Department at Istanbul University from September 16-19, 2025. Located at the intellectual crossroads of Europe and Asia, Istanbul is poised to become a key hub for scientific collaboration and global dialogue.
This year, the conference will expand its thematic scope, focusing on the exchange of knowledge and cultural interactions between the Ottoman, European, and other global traditions from 1400-1800 and exploring the role of global connections in Early Modern science and philosophy from a comprehensive vantage point. Participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with researchers from diverse cultural backgrounds, and interdisciplinary approaches will be encouraged. Additionally, grants are available for selected participants to support their attendance. The conference will feature individual papers, organised panels, roundtable discussions, and workshops.
